When easy becomes difficult

In corporations' ongoing effort to streamline, an extra senior management layer is frequently added to ease communications among the senior management team.

In my experience, this additional layer eases, in some cases, communication among the top layer marginally only. However, a new senior management layer nearly always degrades the communication downwards in the organization exponentially. Furthermore, because a new layer has been added, communications streaming upwards are degrades even further because more people need to be touched as part of the normal decision making process.

In my opinion, the old KISS adage holds true; "Keep It Simple Stupid".

What are your thoughts?
